William Stock is a photographer and filmmaker based in New York. His work is drawn to the quiet, strange moments that exist just outside the obvious story. Like people lingering after the party is over, places that feel familiar but somehow distant, and fleeting scenes that are difficult to put into words.
For William, photography is about finding something within himself that already exists in the real world. He looks for images that give shape to a feeling, often capturing the tiredness, intimacy, and melancholy of the moments after an experience has ended.
He is the primary cinematographer and editor for Critical Focus and a regular host on Paulie B’s livestreams. Outside of Critical Focus, he works as a multimedia production coordinator at Guttman Community College. His independent work spans photography, 16mm and Super 8 film, and digital video.
To William, a good photograph should feel like looking through a keyhole into a world you can't quite enter, but desperately want to understand.
